Branding and settings

School Admin

Put your institution's colours, logo and name on SolAssists. This page also explains which other settings exist and who controls them: terminology, module settings, and which modules are available.

Before you start

  • You need a role that can view and change the institution, such as School Admin. The Branding item only appears if you can change it.
  • Have your logo ready as an image (PNG with a transparent background works best), plus a square icon for the browser tab. Uploads can be up to 5 MB each.
  • File storage must be working on your deployment, or uploads will fail. Ask SOL support if an upload won't finish.

Where to find it

Institution Setup → Branding (heading Branding). It is also linked from step 1 of the Setup Checklist.

Step by step

  1. From the sidebar choose Institution Setup → Branding.
  2. Colour: click a palette to fill in all four colours, then adjust any box if needed. You can paste a hex code such as #0F766E, or use the colour picker.
  3. Type and shape: set Font family, Corner radius and Opens in (Light or Dark). Turn on Let people override this if users may choose dark mode, text size and density for themselves.
  4. Marks: enter a Display name and upload a Logo and Favicon.
  5. Watch Live preview as you go. Nobody else sees anything until you save.
  6. Click Save branding. "Branding saved." appears and the app repaints straight away.

To undo everything, click Reset to SOL and confirm Reset branding. Colours, logo and type go back to the SolAssists defaults for everyone; nothing else is affected.

What happens next

  • Everyone who signs in to your institution sees the new branding.
  • The change is recorded in the Audit trail.

The Display name hint says it appears on receipts and report cards, but the app has no printable receipt or report card yet.

Terminology (set by institution type)

SolAssists uses words that suit your type of institution. A school says Standard and Division; a coaching centre says Course and Batch; a college says Programme, Section and Semester. This follows the institution type SOL chose at onboarding. You can't edit it.

  • Terminology changes only a few labels today, mainly the Dashboard and the Institution Structure heading. Many screens still say "division" and "class" whatever your type.
  • The names of your structure levels (for example Zone, Branch, Standard, Division) are separate. You can rename them in Institution structure.
  • If the institution type is wrong, contact SOL support.

Module settings

Not available in the app

Some modules have settings stored for your institution, such as staff leave notice days or timetable self-scheduling. There is no settings screen in the app. Only SOL support can change them.

Of these settings, only some timetable and staff leave rules actually take effect today. Settings that appear to cover late fees, pass percentages, grading schemes, quiet hours or password rules do nothing yet. Don't rely on them.

Attendance rules are the exception: they have their own screen. See Attendance policy.

Which modules you have

The modules in your sidebar depend on what SOL switched on for your institution. The default set covers Dashboard, structure, students, parents, teachers, admissions, attendance, timetable, staff leave and announcements. Examinations, Study Material, Fees and Reports are add-ons, as are the Academics and People Directory modules.

  • A module that isn't switched on doesn't appear in anyone's sidebar, whatever their role.
  • If someone reaches such a page anyway, they see "This institution isn't subscribed to that module."
  • To add a module, contact SOL.

Who can do this

  • School Admin: branding. Can also see module and terminology effects.
  • SOL support: institution type, which modules are switched on, and module settings.
  • Other roles see the branding but can't change it.
